Uber

Less data shared with advertisers or exposed in a breach: Poor. The New York Attorney General's 2018 release on the multistate settlement says Uber agreed to pay a record $148 million to all 50 states and Washington DC over a 2016 breach in which hackers downloaded the personal information of 57 million riders and drivers, including driver's license information for about 600,000 drivers nationwide. It says Uber paid the hackers $100,000 to conceal the breach and gave notice in late November 2017, a year after it happened, and that the settlement requires Uber to hire an outside party to assess its data security regularly. source↗ 2026-09
