Nautilus received 337 reports of plates dislodging during use, including 111 injuries such as concussions, abrasions, broken toes and contusions, and Johnson Health Tech Trading received 12 reports with no injuries for units it sold. It also lists a 2012 recall of SelectTech 1090 dumbbells for a failing weight selector dial (16 reports, 3 injuries).
