Mid America Pet Food, which manufactures Victor, recalled dry pet food for Salmonella Kiambu contamination starting September 2023 and expanded the recall through November 2023; FDA and CDC logged seven related human cases, six in children age one or younger, one hospitalized. Food Safety News reported that a November 22, 2024, FDA warning letter, following a further inspection, found the plant still had multiple resident Salmonella strains, unfollowed cleaning protocols, standing rainwater in production areas, and inadequately heat-treated raw chicken fat. source↗ 2026
