Recall and safety record: Limited. Hill's recalled canned dog food starting in late January 2019 and expanded the recall twice, on March 20 and May 17, 2019, to a total of 86 lots across 33 varieties, after receiving complaints of vitamin D toxicity; FDA laboratories measured vitamin D in the recalled food at more than 33 times the safe upper limit.
