Ingredient and manufacturing transparency: Limited. Independent food-safety journalist Phyllis Entis reviewed a June 2023 FDA inspection of Nestlé Purina's Crete, Nebraska, plant, which cans Friskies along with Alpo, Purina ONE, and Pro Plan Veterinary Diets. The inspector traced an earlier mislabeling recall to a conveyor motor malfunction that let a batch of cat food and dog food comingle before the retort step, meaning some cans received the wrong thermal process, and found the plant relied only on magnets to catch foreign material and had problems controlling residual chlorine in its cooling water. source↗ 2026
